Cheap Interior-Décor Ideas

Posted on

Whether you just moved into a new home and want to start fresh or are craving a new look in your current abode, you can tastefully decorate or redecorate on the cheap. To save money, start with items that you already have and transform them with a creative touch.

You can also find inexpensive interior décor online, and you won't even have to leave your house to do it. Before heading to a brick-and-mortar store, check to see if you can find any online-only discounts and deals.

Following are some ideas decorating your home without breaking the bank.

1. Textiles

If you want a new couch or chair in your living room but don't have room for it in your budget, update your existing furniture with textiles. For instance, add an instant pop of color to a drab couch with a vibrant throw blanket.

For a cohesive look, choose a blanket in a color that matches your décor, such as turquoise for a beach theme or green for a garden-inspired space. You can also use patterned blankets as seasonal decor. Simply fold the blanket neatly over the back of an arm of the couch or chair.

Complete the look with matching decorative pillows. If you already have throw pillows but are tired of the design or color, place new slipcovers on them for an instant update.

2. Vases

Large vases filled with flowers or other décor items will give you a big bang for your décor bucks. This is even more cost-effective if you're reusing a vase you were given as a gift. One way to decorate a boring clear vase is by filling the bottom with colorful gems, stones, or even seashells if the room has an ocean theme. You can buy any of these décor elements online or at a craft retailer.

You can either fill the vase with water and fresh blooms or insert decorative branches into it for a rustic look. If you're using the vase as dining-room table décor, look for branches with LED lights for a warm glow.

3. Picture Frames

Another way to make a big impact on a little budget is with frames. For an eclectic look, group a bunch of empty frames in various shapes but similar color tones as a wall centerpiece. Personalize an uninspired wood frame with gemstones, seashells, or buttons or cover it with craft paint.

Take old photos out of frames and fill them with eye-catching pieces, such as vintage postcards, old magazine advertisements, or matted artwork instead.
